Key observations from the CDR Methods table, below:
- Biologic CDR methods generally are lower tech than geologic methods, requiring less intensive industrial operations than geologic methods.
- Many of the biologic methods of CDR have been performed widely, so their technical readiness levels are rated as "high".
- The only geologic method rated as high readiness is direct air capture with pore space storage (DACPS), owing to the petroleum industry's long-time experience injecting liquified CO2 into deep layers of sandstone and limestone. Direct air capture technology is advancing.
- Geologic storage methods generally are rated more durable than biologic methods.
